THE MOTHERLY TOUCH OF A FILIPINAPosted by Hub Pacheco (Pasay, Philippines) on 12 November 2006 in People & Portrait. A Filipina nanny (or, in Filipino, yaya) shares a light moment with her charge as they watch a football game at Manila Polo Club last August. That was no ordinary football game as it was a game hosted by the Philippine Australian Football League. The league is comprised of both Filipinos and Australians and employs Australian rules football. Photos of the game can be seen here and here. Their offical website is here. I for one am really surprised at the large Australian community here in the Philippines. I was invited to shoot their games for two weeks and along the way I realized a few things. First, they were a classy bunch. You know, generally good-natured people, with the accent and all. Second, they were damn well-off. Their league is just basically their families and friends of their families. And while they are really nice and all, I just wasn't that comfortable with them on the inside. I guess I can't really hobknob with the ultra-rich and classy. It's not my thing. And third, no matter what, the motherly touch of a Filipina works wonders and transcends all nationalities, as seen in the photo above.
