THE HOLY IN HOLY MASS

Posted by Hub Pacheco (Pasay, Philippines) on 6 January 2007 in Cityscape & Urban.

I passed by Plaza Miranda yesterday and was met with a huge flow of people. (See above photo) I wasn't surprised - it was a Friday, after all (Feast Day of the Black Nazarene). What did surprised me was a big, grand stage set up right smack in the middle of Plaza Miranda. It was a taping (or live feed I'm not sure) of a local TV show and they were promoting the annual January 9 celebration of the Feast of The Black Nazarene (a big Christian spiritual experience here in the Philippines) Now, that's cool and all, but what disappointed me was that they did all this - with loud music and big bright lights - while Mass was going on inside the church. What the ----? Couldn't they have done that AFTER the Mass? Whatever happened to the Holy in Holy Mass?

I'm reminded of an anecdote in the Bible where Jesus reprimanded vendors selling their wares along the church premises. Now for me, that was forgivable. But this - this is downright disrespectful.
